Surfrider Vancouver And tentree Partner Up For Earth Day Beach Cleanup

Planting trees is important.

Planting trees is important. It’s why we plant 10 trees for each item purchased. But as a brand, our mission doesn’t begin and end there. One thing we are incredibly concerned about is the quantity of trash that makes its way into the oceans every year.

On Earth Day, we joined Surfrider Vancouver, Canada, a local organization connected to the Surfrider Foundation, at Wreck Beach in British Columbia for a beach cleanup. While there, we raffled off a couple tentree eco-packs, which includes a reusable tote bag, a bamboo straw, and a bamboo eating utensil, as well as a free hat, stickers, and a sapling.

Not only did we get to talk about the impact we have on the environment with some amazing volunteers, but we got to get our hands a little dirty too. By the end of the event with Surfrider Vancouver, all of us working together picked up more than 20,000 individual pieces of garbage that had washed ashore, weighing in at over 100 pounds!

“It was such a great way to start a Saturday morning – with so many dedicated people, on the beach, in the sun – enjoying our time there and all the while feeling great in taking part to clean up plastic that could otherwise harm wildlife,” writes Iva Jericevic, an illustrator with tentree, after the event. “It was a great sense of camaraderie and only an hour’s time cleaned up a huge amount of waste.”

She was joined by Jacqueline Lowndes, media relations coordinator for tentree.

“Being part of a clean up that cleared away over 100lbs of waste was an incredible opportunity,” said Lowndes. “It was amazing seeing so many people come out to take care of our planet and we can’t wait to partner with Surfrider again!”
