Each year, spectators arrive from around the globe to watch this incredible 1,400 year old Ginkgo tree transform into a brilliant, beautiful, and breathtaking yellow sea of leaves.

This ancient tree grows next to the Gu Guanyin Buddhist Temple, located in the Zhongnan Mountains of China.

Around the second week of November each year, the tree’s leaves begin to change into their vibrant yellow color and fall to the ground.

The tree’s vibrant yellow leaves have given it the nickname of “Maidenhair.” For residents of the temple, it is the perfect space to meditate and be one with nature. While the age of this tree might seem incredible, it’s young in the grand scheme of things. The Ginkgo tree has existed, mostly unchanged, for millions of years.

It is a tree that can withstand extreme climate change and not have to adapt itself much at all.

Enjoy these stunning shots of Maidenhair.
