These trees were chosen after speaking with locals and asking them what types of trees they need, rather than the more conventional method of telling them what they should be planting. It has helped us gain the respect and trust of locals all over the world.

1)  Moringa olifera

Moringa olifera is a fast-growing, drought-resistant tree that has edible (delicious) seed pods and leaves packed with vitamins, minerals and protein. A fantastic tree to address food security.

2)  Carica papaya

Carica papaya, more commonly known as “papaya” is a tropical fruit that provides healthy food when eaten and income when sold.

3)  Calliandra calothyrsus

Calliandra calothyrsus is a fast-growing, nitrogen-fixing tree great for reducing erosion and restoring soil health. Bees love Calliandra flowers for the abundant bee fodder they produce throughout the year. The leaves also provide an excellent source of fodder for livestock.

4)  Sesbania sesban

Sesbania sesban is a great ‘pioneer’ tree that often planted on degraded soils to quickly improve soil tilth (the soil’s suitability for crop growth).

5)  Leucaena leucocephala

Leucaena leucocephala is another fast-growing pioneer tree that provides numerous useful products and environmental services.

6)  Acacia nilotica

Acacia nilotica is a thorny species useful for establishing livestock-proof living fences. The wood is strong and durable, and often used by farmers to make tool handles. The leaves and pods provide healthy fodder for livestock.
