We get it — we’re all on day who-knows-what of wearing sweats to our zoom meetings, and if you’re anything like me your current rotation of work-appropriate yet comfy outfits might be going on repeat.

That’s why I wanted to ask the tentree team what they’re wearing above (and below) the keyboard to get some fresh WFH style tips and inspiration.

“I love wearing my Destination Pacific Joggers working from home since they’re eco-friendly, stretchy, lightweight and so versatile to dress both up and down.

For this outfit, I’m pairing the women’s joggers with a black sports bra and high-neck tank — I like to keep it comfy when I go from my desk to the couch when I want a change of scenery in my living space, or to go on a light walk at lunch to get some fresh air. To elevate this look “above the keyboard”, I can easily throw on a thrifted oversized brown blazer and some gold earrings, and I feel confident and ready for any virtual meeting.”

Add Chunky Jewelry

Chunky jewellery like gold hoops, or stack of chain necklaces dresses up any outfit even if you’re wearing it over a  French Terry Crew Sweatshirt and joggers, you look put together.

Invest In Basics

Now working from home you can repeat outfits, especially bottoms without even being noticed! This is a great time to find higher quality, timeless, and comfy pants you can wear more than once a week. This means that you get more wear between washes (less damaging to the garment), which saves water usage. The less need to purchase more saves in material consumption which is also great for the environment.

Find Your Balance Of Style-Comfort

For one person, maybe wearing a sweatsuit at home is what makes them feel super comfy and ready to get stuff done, while for another that same outfit makes them feel groggy and uninspired. In the same way, someone else might want to wear tight dress pants and a fitted blouse to have a sense of normalcy and sense of control, while for others that’s just too much to think about on top of all the other new responsibilities they have taken on since working at home.

In the end, it’s about being kind to yourself, not feeling pressured to have show up in any certain way, and wearing whatever makes you feel like you can seize another day as these unpredictable days come.

“When I’m working from home, the most important component to my outfit is comfort. My house gets cold, so most days I’m wearing sweaters. That being said, I still like to look somewhat put together.

My favourite sweater to wear is the Golden Spruce Crew, because it’s extremely soft, but also not too heavy or bulky. For warmer days, I love my Keep Earth Chill T-Shirt. It’s so soft and lightweight. It’s also great because the graphics are business in the front and party in the back.

I’m usually wearing a pair of sweats and using my tentree blanket to keep warm ‘below the keyboard’! I’m purely about comfort on the bottom, because really, if it can’t be seen on Zoom, you might as well wear whatever you want!”

Comfort Matters

Clothes with high quality, soft, and sustainable material are always the best. tentree does all of that very well. It’s worth the investment to buy some high-quality loungewear.

Think Contrast

If you’re working in a bright, light space, then you may want to wear darker clothes and vice versa. This will make it easier for your coworkers to see you when you’re on a video call.

Put Some Effort Into Your Pant Choice (Even If It’s A Nice Pair Of Sweats)

You never know when you’ll have to get up to stop your dog from chewing your socks, or answer the door while you’re on a video call. It’s better to be safe than sorry!

Jess, Brand Partnership Lead

“I’m always looking for comfort and style with my WFH outfit. For me layering is key. My home is typically cool in the morning, and warms up when the sun hits my office in the afternoon. I’m usually a white tee (and jeans) kinda gal, so I love the subtle chest graphic on our white unisex Peace Man Tee, which I’ll layer with our Highline Cardigan to keep warm, and gives a more put together look for video calls. My InMotion leggings are such an easy go-to. There’s no restriction whatsoever — I can pop offline for a quick stretch, or a sunny bike ride and not have to change. One stop shop!

The white tee keeps my look crisp and clean, while the cardigan helps prevent my above the keyboard look from coming off as too casual. Below the keyboard, you can’t go wrong with a solid pair of leggings!”

Jess’s WFH Style Tip

Go with what works best for you, and how you’re feeling on the day. You want an outfit that will have you feeling comfortable and has you feeling empowered to tackle your day!

Sola, Director of Brand

“In this outfit, I’m wearing vegan leather pants, my favourite Cropped Relaxed T-shirt and this men’s Canvas Jacket (which could totally use a steam) — I love shopping the men’s section for oversized jackets and sweaters.

I find it hard to express my style in a tiny zoom meeting box, so I like to get creative with jewelry and often sling a sweater over my shoulders. I love fashion, and have found it challenging getting dressed with… well… nowhere to go. I’ve really enjoyed dressing up my top half, and keeping my bottom half comfortable. I’m obsessed with our InMotion Bike Short, if I’m wearing a button-up in our next zoom call, rest assured it’s bike shorts below the keyboard. “

Small Styling Tweaks Go A Long Way

Get creative by adding jewelry or drape a sweater over your shoulders to give your above the keyboard look some love and personality.

Stay Comfy “Below The Keyboard”

Bike shorts look fun and polished when paired with a button up — and no one ever has to know that you’re wearing them!

Ladies, Shop The Men’s Department

When prioritizing comfort and style, borrow from the boys and get some men’s clothing to use as oversized layers.
