As 2024 comes to a close, we’re reflecting on all that our community of changemakers has helped us accomplish. From planting trees (as always) to funding beehives in Kenya and the growth of our Circularity program, we’re excited to share the impact your support has made possible this year.
We Planted Over 9 Million Trees
That’s a lot of land area reforested and carbon sequestered — but it doesn’t stop there.
- Jobs Created: Every tree planted creates work for local communities.
- Habitats Protected: Trees breathe life back into ecosystems, helping species thrive.
- Communities Supported: From providing food sources to reducing flooding, reforestation makes a difference at every level.
From restoring lost forests in Williams Lake, securing shorelines by planting mangroves in Kenya, and replenishing our ocean’s forests in coastal B.C., our planting projects continue to make a widespread impact. Stay tuned for our 2024 Impact Report to learn more about these trees. But for now, let’s look at what else we achieved together this year.
We Funded 100 Beehives in Kenya
Every tentree order placed during this year’s Green Friday and Cyber Monday planted trees and funded beehives in Kenya. But why trees and bees, you might ask?
Bees are nature’s busiest pollinators, helping biodiversity thrive and ensuring plants — including the trees we plant — continue to flourish for years to come. They stabilize soil, enrich ecosystems, and keep nature’s cycles in balance. But their impact doesn’t stop there.
When planting projects wrap up, so do many of the jobs they create. That’s where beehives come in, providing a sustainable way to support local communities. This was the inspiration behind our initiative.
- One beehive can produce up to 7kg of honey annually.
- Hives also yield beeswax, bee pollen, propolis, royal jelly, bee venom, mead, and bee bread — all valuable products that can be sold to boost community income.
- It only takes two beehives to generate a full-time salary for someone at our planting sites.
With 100 beehives funded, that’s 50 full-time salaries — creating stability for local families and fostering long-term economic growth in these communities.
Together, We Grew Circularity
With 85% of clothing ending up in landfills and less than 1% being recycled, creating a circular fashion system is essential.
Our Circularity program, which launched in 2022, brings together clothing resale and recycling in one accessible platform. In 2023, we expanded to accept clothing from any brand — not just tentree — and brought our resale site to Canada. And in 2024, the program flourished.
We Collected 17,830 Pieces
That’s over 66% of the 27,000 pieces we’ve collected since the program began.
But the real impact? Each garment diverted from landfills:
- Reduces waste and helps prevent toxic emissions.
- Gives resources a second life through recycling or resale.
- Conserves raw materials, reducing the need for new resource extraction.
Together with our recycling partner, Supercircle, we’re giving garments a new life. By reintegrating them into the value chain, we’re making strides toward a more sustainable, circular economy.
We Re-Homed Over 1,200 Pre-Loved Pieces
Through our Reshop site, powered by Treet, these pre-loved items found new homes — carrying their stories forward while reducing the demand for new resources.
By embracing secondhand fashion, our community is:
- Helping us close the loop on fashion, keeping garments out of landfills.
- Conserving resources like water and energy.
- Lowering the apparel industry’s environmental footprint.
It’s a collective effort that’s making a difference — piece by piece.
We’re Looking at You, 2025
As we close the chapter on 2024, we’re excited by the progress we’ve made and our community that’s made it possible. As always, our planting efforts continue to restore ecosystems, support local communities, and contribute to a healthier planet. Meanwhile, as our Circularity program grows, so does our commitment to a more sustainable future by giving garments a second life and keeping valuable resources in use.
With each tree planted and every piece re-homed, we’re building momentum for an even greater impact. Here’s to more growth and protecting the world we play in in 2025.
“Thank you so much for being a part of the journey this past year. Purchasing a t-shirt may not seem like much, but your choice to join the tentree movement is helping to plant trees, rebuild communities, and restore environments. Thank you so much for protecting the world we play in.”
