Utah is pretty well known for its national parks and it’s great salt lake, but what about winter sports like skiing and snowboarding? When you think about good ski slopes, you probably picture Colorado and even some places in Canada. But Utah actually has some incredible ski resorts that are definitely worth checking out.
Brighton Resort
The first on our list is the Brighton resort. It’s a short drive, just 45 mintues, from Salt Lake City just beond the Solitude Ski Resort. It features 1,000 acres of skiable terrain and kids 10 years or younger ski for free! This is a good ski resort for all skill levels. The slopes are well cared for an accessible to all.
Sundance Mountain Resort
Sundance Mountain Resort is also near to Salt Lake City – about an hour’s drive away. If you want a launching point a bit closer, Provo is only thirty minutes away. This resort is definitely more on the rustic side with nice log cabins to rent. The resort is a bit smaller, only about 450 acres, but it does feature an excellent ski school for beginners.</>
Powder Mountain
Oh to live on powder mountain. This ski resort, an hour north of Salt Lake City, features 8,464 acres of skiable terrain, making it a huge resort! 3,800 of those acres are accessible by lift. This resort is great for those who love natural snow. There are only 3,000 season passes given out each year, so get yours while you can!
Solitude Mountain
We mentioned Solitude Mountain briefly earlier, but this spot, as its name would suggest, is a well-hidden gem. It has 1,200 acres of skiable territory, totaling 80 runs. Each run ends up near a couple of main lifts, so it’s difficult to get lost. This resort gets our recommendation for family ski trips.
Snowbird
Snowbird is our pick for more advanced skiers. This resort features very steep runs and open bowls. Snowbird really has it all though, including a 125-passenger tram and numerous other accommodations. It’s located about an hour drive from Salt Lake City and is definitely one of the more scenic ski resorts.
Snowbasin
30 minutes away from Ogden, Utah is Snowbasin. It’s a smaller resort and often overlooked, but is absolutely beautiful and definitely worth the trip. 3,000 acres of skiable terrain are well maintained and at times steep. The lodging is beautiful and rustic. It is one of the oldest continually running ski resorts in the country.
Park City Ski Resort
Last up on our list is Park City Ski Resort. With 7,300 acres of skiable terrain, it’s the second largest ski resort in Utah. It’s perfect for skiers of all skill levels from beginners to advanced. In 2015, this resort combined with Canyons Ski Resort – each one providing a slightly different experience. Park City has great intermediate runs and Canyon Ski Resort is a little more posh with gourmet restaurants right near the slopes.
